  • Eat more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and other high-fiber foods.
  • Choose foods that are low in saturated fat, trans fat, and cholesterol.
  • Limit salt (sodium).
  • Stay at a healthy weight by balancing the calories you eat with your physical activity.
  • Eat more foods high in omega-3 fatty acids, such as fish.
  • Limit drinks and foods with added sugar.

Remember, it can be easy to create nutritious, heart-healthy meals your family will love. Start by learning what to look for at the grocery store, restaurants, your workplace and any eating occasion.  Here are a few foods that are great additions to your shopping cart or plate: Yogurt, Raisins, Whole Grains, Beans, Salmon/Fish, Nuts, Tomatoes, Apples, Berries, Bananas, Popcorn and Green Tea.
